HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Marist University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Quinnipiac on Sunday, prevailing by scores of 13-9 in game one and 9-0 in six innings in game two.
With the victories, Marist's winning streak now stands at 15 games.
- Marist scored twice in the top of the first. The Red Foxes drew four walks, and the final one by Sienna Kunze forced home Peyton Pusey. Isabella Manory's single plated Haley Ahr.
- Quinnipiac scored twice in the bottom of the second to tie the game.
- The Red Foxes took the lead back with two in the top of the third. Kunze drew a leadoff walk, and she later scored on an error. Ronni Howard's RBI double brought home Samantha Rogers.
- However, Natalia Apatiga's two-run double tied the game in the bottom of the third.
- Marist broke the game open with an eight-run fourth. The inning included a two-run homer by Manory, and a three-run blast from Maddie Pleasants.
- Quinnipiac avoided the mercy rule with a five-run fifth.
- Rogers' sacrifice fly brought home Miah McDonald in the sixth with the game's final run.
- Marist pounded out 13 hits and drew 11 walks.
- Ahr had a team-best three hits, going 3-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, and a walk.
- Rogers, Manory, and Howard had two hits apiece.
- Pleasants and Manory each drove in three runs.
- Marist pitchers recorded 14 strikeouts.
- Pleasants started in the circle, and she struck out seven in three innings.
- Emma Bayor struck out two in 1.2 innings of relief.
- Myers finished the game with five strikeouts in 2.1 innings. She recorded the win and improved to 12-0.
- Marist scored three in the top of the first. Pleasants' bases loaded walk forced home Pusey. Rogers' two-run single brought home McDonald and Ahr.
- Rogers' three-run homer staked Marist to a 6-0 lead in the fourth. Later in the inning, Howard brought home the Red Foxes' seventh run on an error.
- Marist tacked on two more in the sixth. Ahr's RBI single brought home Pusey. Rogers' double later scored Ahr.
- Rogers finished 3-for-4 with six RBIs.
- McDonald went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
- Anna Sidlowski (6-2) started and went four scoreless innings for the win. She allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out one, and she threw just 44 pitches.
- Isabella Milazzo closed the game with two scoreless innings. She allowed just one hit and struck out, and she threw only 17 pitches.
- Marist set a team record for home runs in a season on Manory's blast in the fourth inning of game one. The Red Foxes now have 58 home runs this season, and their previous record was 55, set last season.
- Marist finished March with a 15-0 record. The 15-game winning streak is the second longest in program history, trailing only a 17-game streak in 2016.
- Myers earned her 50th career win in game one. She became the fifth player in program history to reach this milestone.
- Rogers' six RBIs in game two were a career high. She went 5-for-7 on the day with eight RBIs.
- Pleasants has 10 home runs in her last 11 games.
- McDonald extended her hitting streak to 20 games. Pusey and Ahr both extended theirs to 15 games.
- Sidlowski has not allowed an earned run in her last five appearances, which covers 26 innings.
- Marist is now 26-5 this season.
- Quinnipiac now stands at 8-18.
- Marist returns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Tuesday when the Red Foxes host Canisius at the Army West Point Softball Complex.
