JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee – The Marist University softball team prevailed twice at the Buccaneer Classic on Friday.
In their first game of the day, the Red Foxes defeated Mercyhurst, 4-0. In game two, Marist earned a 9-0 victory over host East Tennessee State.
The Red Foxes have now won five straight, and they have recorded four straight shutouts. Marist's scoreless streak now stands at 28.1 innings.
Marist is now 16-5 this season.
- The game was scoreless until the bottom fo the sixth, when Miah McDonald's three-run homer opened the scoring.
- Maddie Pleasants followed with a homer two batters later to increase Marist's lead to 4-0.
- Kiley Myers tossed a one-hitter to improve to 9-0. She struck out three and walked two.
- Haley Ahr's RBI single brought home Peyton Pusey to open the scoring in the top of the first.
- Sienna Kunze scored on a throwing error in the fourth.
- The Red Foxes broke it open with a four-run fifth. Pusey led off the inning with a homer. Pleasants' single brought home McDonald. Kaitlyn Husic stole third, and then scored on a throwing error. Ronni Howard's single brought home Isabella Manory.
- Ahr's groundout scored Pusey in the sixth, which put Marist up 7-0.
- Marist closed out the scoring in the seventh on Anna Sidlowski's two-run double.
- Pleasants also went the distance in the circle for the shutout. She struck out 10 while allowing just three hits and one walk.
- Sidlowski finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two doubles.
- Pusey scored three runs.
- Marist plays two more games at the Buccaneer Classic on Saturday.
- The Red Foxes take on St. Bonaventure at noon, and they will face Mercyhurst at 3 p.m.
