JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee – The Marist University softball team earned two more wins at the Buccaneer Classic on Saturday, as the Red Foxes extended their winning streak to seven.
In game one, the Red Foxes extended their shutout streak to five with a 10-0 triumph over St. Bonaventure in five innings. In game two, Marist belted four home runs in a 13-3 victory over Mercyhurst. The Red Foxes hadn't allowed a run in 34.1 innings until the second inning of the Mercyhurst game.
On the day,
Maddie Pleasants belted three homers and drove in six.
Miah McDonald homered in each game and drove in seven.
Peyton Pusey went 7-for-9 with six runs scored and five RBIs.
Marist is now 18-5 on the season.
- Back-to-back sacrifice flies by Maddie Pleasants and Sienna Kunze gave Marist a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
- Miah McDonald's grand slam extended Marist's lead to 6-0 in the second.
- Peyton Pusey's bases-clearing double an inning later put Marist up 9-0.
- Pleasants' solo homer closed out the scoring in the fourth.
- Anna Sidlowski went the distance on a two-hitter. She needed just 60 pitches to get through five innings as she struck out four and did not walk any.
- Marist finished with eight hits. Pusey was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Haley Ahr went 2-for-3.
- Marist scored twice in the top of the first. Kunze drew a bases-loaded walk, and Isabella Manory had a sacrifice fly.
- Ronni Howard came home on Haley Ahr's fielder's choice as Marist's lead went to 3-0 in the top of the second.
- Mercyhurst scored twice in the bottom of the second, but Pleasants' homer gave Marist a 4-2 lead in the top of the third. Pleasants then belted a three-run homer in the fourth.
- Mercyhurst cut its deficit to 7-3 in the bottom of the fourth, but Pusey hit a two-run inside-the-park homer in the fifth.
- Samantha Rogers' double of the sixth brought home Manory with Marist's 10th run of the game.
- McDonald's three-run homer in the seventh closed out the scoring.
- Pusey went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBIs.
- Pleasants was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. She also struck out five in six innings.
- Marist closes out play in the Buccaneer Classic on Sunday against St. Bonaventure.
- First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
