JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee – The Marist University softball team won its eighth straight game on Sunday, as the Red Foxes defeated St. Bonaventure by a score of 10-1 in five innings in the Buccaneer Classic.
The victory was the Red Foxes' eighth in a row, and they closed out play in the Buccaneer Classic with a 5-0 mark.
- Peyton Pusey led off the bottom of the first with a walk on a full count, and Miah McDonald followed with a two-run homer to open the scoring.
- Pusey started a one-out rally in the second with a bunt single. After McDonald walked, Haley Ahr drove in Pusey with a single. McDonald then came home on a single by Ronni Howard.
- St. Bonaventure scored in the top of the third, but Marist answered with four in the bottom half of the inning. Kaitlyn Husic started the rally with a one-out hit, and she scored on an RBI single by Pusey. McDonald followed with a two-run homer. Later in the inning, Ahr came in on a passed ball.
- Anna Sidlowski led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, and she scored on Samantha Rogers' single. The Red Foxes closed out the scoring on McDonald's groundout, which plated Sienna Kunze.
- McDonald went 2-for-3 with five RBIs, three runs scored, two homers, and a walk.
- Pusey went 2-for-3 with three runs, an RBI, and a walk.
- Sidlowski went 2-for-3 with a run.
- Kiley Myers improved to 10-0 with four innings of one-run ball. She struck out five, allowed three hits, and walked just one. She threw just 37 pitches.
- Emma Bayor finished the game with a scoreless fifth which included two strikeouts.
- McDonald finished the week with five home runs and 15 runs batted in.
- Pusey finished the week with 13 runs scored and hit .550 (11-for-20).
- Joe Ausanio won his 450th game as head coach.
- Marist is now 19-5.
- St. Bonaventure is 4-9.
- Marist will play a non-conference doubleheader at Lafayette on Friday, March 14.
- First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
