NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Joshua Balcarcel and
Collin Patrick tallied hat tricks as the Red Foxes defeated MAAC opponent Iona, 12-7, on Mazzella Field on Saturday afternoon.
On top of their goal tallies, Balcarcel and Patrick each recorded two assists for a combined 10 points between them.
With the win, Marist improved to 3-3 on the season and 1-0 in MAAC play, while Iona dropped to 0-1 in MAAC play and 1-7 overall.

First Quarter
- Joshua Balcarcel opened the scoring for the Red Foxes with his eighth season tally, which was less than a minute in.
- Sean Mullan followed suit, scoring to put the Red Foxes up 2-0 at the 10:43 mark.
- Peter Murray capped off the Red Foxes' opening salvo, scoring his first goal of the season, assisted by Steven Cain.
- Both teams held each other off the scoresheet for over seven minutes, with Iona breaking the deadlock with its first goal at 2:25 on the clock.
- At 1:50, Jake Deacy, assisted by Collin Patrick, scored his seventh goal of the year on the man advantage.
- Less than a minute later, William Embury collected his second of the year, assisted by Patrick.
- With just four seconds remaining on the clock, Balcarcel collected his second goal of the day to close out the first frame 6-1 in favor of the Red Foxes.

Second Quarter
- The second frame remained scoreless until 9:24, with Iona collecting its second of the day.
- The Gaels then made it 6-3 before Patrick responded for the Red Foxes at 6:08 on the clock with his first goal of the day.
- Iona scored once more before the end of the half, closing things with a 7-4 Marist lead.

Third Quarter
- Steven Cain, assisted by Balcarcel, scored just over five minutes into the third to put the Red Foxes up 8-4.
- The Gaels scored the only other goal of the period at the 7:49 mark, leaving the score at 8-5.

Fourth Quarter
- The Gaels attempted to stage a comeback, scoring the first two goals of the frame to bring the deficit down to one.
- However, the Red Foxes refused to relinquish the lead, holding the Gaels scoreless for the remainder of the period.
- Balcarcel secured his hat-trick at 11:39 to put the Red Foxes up 9-7.
- Patrick scored his second of the day just under two minutes later.
- Just over five minutes after, Cain, assisted by Balcarcel, scored his second goal of the day.
- Patrick, assisted by Brady Dolan, secured his hat trick with the game's final goal, ending the contest with a score of 12-7.

- Balcarcel set season-highs in points with five and assists with two and matched season-highs in shots on goal with four, goals with three, and shots on goal with four.

- Freshman goalie Adam Wachholder made his first career start, making 10 saves on 33 shots faced and collecting his first collegiate win.
