Tennis Prepares for Jam-Packed Weekend

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Marist men's and women's tennis teams aim to capitalize on a busy weekend schedule against MAAC opponents Fairfield and Rider.

Men's Tennis will first host Fairfield at the Sportsplex in New Windsor on Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m. The women will also host the Stags on Saturday, April 12, at 4 p.m. at the Sportsplex.

The Red Foxes will then travel to Lawrenceville, NJ, on Sunday, April 13 to take on Rider. The women will play at 11 a.m. while the men take on the Broncs at 2 p.m.

 
Last Time Out For The Women
  • The women's team dropped their matchup against the Niagara Purple Eagles 6-1 on Saturday, April 5
  • The Red Foxes lost two of three doubles matches, with #1 doubles unfinished
  • The lone singles win came at the #5 spot, where Vihana Shresta battled through a three-set thriller, taking the deciding tiebreaker 13-11.
  • The women enter the upcoming weekend 9-6 overall and 2-2 in MAAC Play.
 
Last Time Out for the Men
  • The men's team fell to the Niagara Purple Eagles 5-2 on Saturday, April 5 on the road.
  • Ian Layton and Nick Suhanistki won 6-3 at #2 doubles, with Tomas Gomez and Augustin Damonte securing the doubles point at the #3 spot, defeating their opponents 6-4.
  • Jose Catala grabbed the only singles point for the Red Foxes at #2 after a tight three-set win.
  • The Red Foxes enter the weekend 5-10 overall and 1-3 in MAAC Play.
 
Scouting Fairfield Men (April 11 at 11 a.m.)
  • The Fairfield Stags are 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the MAAC.
  • The Stags dropped their last match to Rider on Wednesday, April 9, falling 5-2.
  • In the all-time matchup between these teams, Marist leads 29-6 but has dropped the last four matchups to the Stags, most recently on April 10, 2024.
 
Scouting Fairfield Women (April 12 at 4 p.m.)
  • The Fairfield Stags are 5-11 overall and 4-0 in the MAAC.
  • The Stags enter the weekend on a three-match win streak, sweeping Rider in their last outing 7-0 on Wednesday, April 9.
  • Freshman Victoria Mandma won the MAAC Women's Tennis Play of the Week on Wednesday, April 9, her second MAAC Weekly honors of the season.
  • All-time, Marist is 14-14 against Fairfield but has dropped its last five matchups, including a 6-1 defeat to the Stags on April 9, 2024, in the previous season.
 
Scouting Rider Men (April 12 at 2 p.m.)
  • The Rider Broncs sit at 7-12 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
  • The Broncs took down Fairfield, 5-2, in their last outing on Wednesday, April 9.
  • All time, Marist is 23-0 against Rider and won their previous matchup 5-2 on April 13, 2024.

  • The Broncs sit at 7-11 on the season and 3-2 in MAAC Play.
  • The Broncs fell to Fairfield in their last outing 7-0 on Wednesday, April 9.
  • All time, Marist is 22-2 against Rider and lost their previous matchup 5-2 on April 13, 2024
  • Marist won the first 22 matches between schools from September 30, 2001, to April 14, 2022, but has lost its last two matchups.
