Balcarcel '25 Makes PLL Debut Friday Night

ALBANY, New York – Former Marist men's lacrosse midfielder Joshua Balcarcel '25 made his PLL Debut Friday night (May. 30) as he played for the California Redwoods in their 15-12 victory over the Denver Outlaws.

Balcarcel played well in his PLL debut, finishing the game with a goal and an assist for two points, to go along with a groundball on 17 total touches.

The first point of Balcarcel's career came on an assist with 18 seconds left in the third quarter to extend the Redwoods' lead to 12-8 late in the frame. Balcarcel followed that with his first career PLL goal with 1:58 left in regulation to push the Redwoods' advantage to 15-11.

With his debut Friday night, Balcarcel is the second former Marist men's ice lacrosse player to dress for a PLL game as he joined Payton Smith '20, who was drafted sixth overall by the Redwoods in 2020. However, Balcarcel is the first Marist alum to record a point in an official PLL contest.

Balcarcel and the Redwoods are off until Saturday, June 7, when they take on the Carolina Chaos inside American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, NC. Opening face-off is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
