Samperi Secures Gold in Long Jump On Day One of MAAC Championships

NEW YORK, NY - Marist delivered an impressive opening day at the 2026 MAAC Indoor Championships on Saturday at the Armory Track and Field Center, highlighted by multiple record-breaking performances, event wins, and several athletes advancing to Sunday's finals.

The standout performance of the day came from Alexandra Samperi, who captured the MAAC title in the long jump with a school-record mark of 5.93 meters. Samperi's victory marked a major early boost for the Red Foxes and set the tone for a strong day in the field events.

Gabrielle Bozeth also made history on the track, breaking the school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.93. Her fifth-place finish in the preliminaries secured a spot in the finals, positioning her as a key contender heading into the final day.

In the middle-distance events, Julianna Mirabile led a strong showing in the 800-meter trials, winning the event in 2:14.08 to qualify for the finals. Rebecca Maclaren joined her in advancing with an eighth-place finish, giving Marist multiple scoring opportunities. Parker O'Brien added to the momentum in the mile, qualifying for the finals with a time of 5:08.11.

Marist continued to see success in the hurdles, where Alicia Ramos recorded a personal-best time of 9.16 in the 60-meter hurdles to qualify for the finals. On the sprint side, Alyssa Dapont posted a personal-best 7.93 in the 60-meter dash trials.

Distance runners Mallory Holloway and Emily Litke both scored in the 5,000 meters, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively, with Litke notching a personal-best performance.
The distance medley relay team of Sierra Fisher, Julie Cristinzio, Kayla Hawkins, and Julia Zydanowicz turned in a season-best time of 12:11.94 to place fourth.

In the field, Emma Murphy added a top-10 finish in the long jump, while Kelly Ballen set a school record in the weight throw with a mark of 10.64 meters.

With a conference champion crowned, multiple school records broken, and several athletes advancing to finals, the Red Foxes built strong momentum heading into the final day of competition.
