POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Marist University men's soccer team played Air Force to a 0-0 draw in a non-conference matchup on Sunday night at Tenney Stadium.
"I'm happy we got a shutout," said head coach Matt Viggiano '99. "We gave up 11 corners which concerns me, but we also defended all of them and they had no shots on goal. Obviously you'd like to come out of it with a result, with a win, but it's something we can definitely build on."
The draw moves both teams to 0-0-2 to start the season.
- The Red Foxes controlled the opening half, recording 10 shots and putting five on target, but were unable to find the back of the net as the match remained scoreless at halftime.
- Marist generated several scoring chances late in the second half. Senior Chris Verheul, sophomore Ronan Hogg and junior Caio Cavaletti all recorded shots on target, but nobody was able to find the back of the net as the two teams played to their second consecutive draw to open the season.
- Marist outshot Air Force 16-9 and held a 10-0 advantage in shots on target.
- The Red Foxes earned five corner kicks, while the Falcons recorded 11.
- Junior goalkeeper Alex Murania recorded his first shutout of the season.
- Verheul led Marist with three shots on target, while Hogg and Cavaletti each recorded two shots on target.
- The Red Foxes conclude a three-game homestand on Saturday, Aug. 29, when Ivy League foe Cornell comes to town.
- Kickoff from Tenney Stadium is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
