April 17, 2001 -- Senior co-captain
Denis McManus (Westwood, NJ) took first place in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 43 feet, 9 inches to lead the Marist College mens track team at the Columbia Invitational, held Saturday at Baker Field in Manhattan.
McManus is just five inches off the school record, which he hopes to achieve before he graduates next month. McManus also took sixth in the long jump with a leap of 21-5 ½. It was an excellent day of jumping for McManus, who was nursing a sore ankle and could not practice his event all week as a result of the injury.
Freshman Eli Bisnett-Cobb (Ballston Spa, NY) tied the school record in the 110-meter high hurdles, placing ninth in 15.66 seconds. Bisnett-Cobb is the school-record holder in the 55-meter high hurdles in indoor track. He also placed second in the high jump at Columbia with a leap of 6-3 ½. Teammate Jose Parizo (West Hartford, Conn.) was fourth in the high jump.
On the track, the distance-running troika of Mike Nehr (West Babylon, NY), Pat Driscoll (Congers, NY) and Chris McCloskey (Hopewell Junction, NY) once again ran well in the 1,500-meter run. Nehr placed fourth overall in 3:57.21, a personal-best time and just .09 off the school record in the event. Driscoll improved his personal-best in the distance by three seconds, placing 22nd in 4:02.13. McCloskey was right behind his teammate with a time of 4:02.20.
The mens track team returns to action on Thursday, April 26 at the Penn Relay Carnival.
