State College, PA - The Marist College men's tennis team competed at the Penn State Fall Classic over the weekend, which included some of the top teams in the Northeast region.
In singles play, David Slater (St. Albans, England) and Michael Nassif (Ames, IA) reached the quarterfinals for the Red Foxes. Slater won his second round match over Anthony Pu of Pennsylvania on Saturday 6-4, 6-1. Slater would then fall in the quarterfinal match to Eric Kochanski of West Virginia 6-3, 6-4. Nassif defeated Nino White of West Virginia 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Nassif lost a hard-fought match to Clint Keithley of Penn State 6-1, 6-4.
Two doubles teams reached the quarterfinals in the tournament as the team of Patrick Hofer (Villach, Austria) and Martin Aldorsson (Kungsbacka, Sweden) won 8-4 over Bielen and Deming of Rutgers. Viktor Sapezhnikov (Brooklyn, NY) and Mark Santucci (Chepachet, RI) also won their second round match over Price and Qureski of St. Bonaventure 8-3.
The Red Foxes return to action on Friday, November 1st, when they compete at the ITA Region I Championship in Princeton, NJ.
