Marist Drops Games to East Carolina 6-0, and Akron 8-0, at ECU Softball Tournament

Greenville, NC - Marist College dropped games to East Carolina 6-0, and Akron 8-0 on the second day of the ECU Softball Tournament in Greenville, NC.

Trailing 6-0 in the top of the seventh against East Carolina, the Red Foxes (0-4) loaded the bases with no outs on an infield single by sophomore Becky Rakos (Shelton, CT). Then two fielder's choice and a strikeout by the Pirates ended the Marist rally. Freshman pitcher Nichole Rawson (Palmdale, CA) fell to 0-1 on the season, surrendering six runs and nine hits in six innings. Laurie Davidson earned the victory for East Carolina, giving up no runs and five hits in seven innings of action. Kristen Johnson had three hits and four RBI's, including a three-run homer in the sixth, for the Pirates.

In the first game of bracket play against Akron, junior Bobbi Jo Gonnello (Clifton, NJ) doubled in the fourth for the Red Foxes only hit in five innings. Freshman Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) gave up eight hits and seven runs, four earned in three and one third innings while falling to 0-2 on the year. Lisa Keenan was the winning pitcher for Akron, giving up one hit and striking out nine in four innings.

Marist moves on in the double elimination tournament to face Fordham tomorrow Sunday, March 10th at 9:00 AM. The winner will then play at 1:00 PM.
