Softball Falls Twice at Lehigh, 7-2, 4-1

Bethlehem, PA - The Marist College softball team fell twice at host Lehigh, losing the first game 7-2, and the second 4-1 earlier this afternoon in Bethlehem, PA. The Red Foxes are now 8-21-1 overall, while Lehigh improved to 25-12 overall.

In the first game Marist jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first behind a two-run double from junior Bobbi Jo Gonnello (Clifton, NJ). The lead was short lived as Lehigh responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-2 lead after one inning. The Hawks then added a run in the fourth and two in the fifth for the 7-2 victory.

Junior Nicole Fox (Temecula, CA) was on the losing end for Marist, while her counterpart Emily Ling struck out 10 Red Foxes on her way to the win.

The second game saw Lehigh take a 3-0 lead after three innings after scoring twice in the second and once in the third inning. After freshman Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) double and scored on a ground out by freshman Barbara Leasure (Fairless Hills, PA) in the fourth, the Red Foxes tailed by a count of 3-1. The Hawks the added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth to claim the 4-1 win. Gonnello had two hits in the game for the Red Foxes

Marist pitcher Blake pitched the first four innings before handing the ball over to Rawson, was dealt the loss. Stephanie Howell was the winning pitcher for Lehigh.

Marist will return to action on Saturday, April 20th with a doubleheader at MAAC foe Siena at 12:00 PM. The Red Foxes will then return home to the Gartland Commons Athletic Fields and face Stony Brook at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 21st
