Poughkeepsie, NY---The Marist College women's tennis team defeated Manhattan College this afternoon, 5-2, winning their first match of the 2002 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament, held in Flushing Meadows, NY.

In the doubles competition the number one doubles team of Diana Perachio (Newtown, CT) and Amanda Doetsch (Freehold, NJ) defeated McGuire and James, 8-5. At number two doubles, Chavez and Geller beat Kara Bliss (Burnt Hills, NY) and Kathryn Szymanski (Scituate, NJ), 8-2. At number three doubles, Jennifer Edwards (Baldwinsville, NY) and Courtney McGeever (Wickliffe, OH) defeated Kulock and Ondrieckak, 8-5.

In singles play, Perachio beat Chavez-Geller at number one singles, 6-3, 6-7, 10-6. At number two singles Doetsch defeated McGuire, 6-3, 6-0. At number three singles McGeever edged James,6-7,7-3,6-2,6-0. Bliss claimed the win at number five singles over Smith, 6-3, 6-2. At number six singles, Szymanski beat Ondreicka, 6-1,6-3.

The Red Foxes will take on Loyola at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow afternoon.
