Softball Ties Army 2-2 After Falling in the First Game 4-1

Red Foxes split with Siena 2-3 (8), 3-2 in Softball

Loudonville, NY - The Marist College softball team split a doubleheader with Siena losing 3-2 and winning 3-2 earlier today at Siena Field in Loudonville, NY. The split between the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents leaves Marist at 9-22-1 overall and 3-5 in the MAAC, while Siena is 7-19 overall and 3-5 in the MAAC.

The Saints struck first in game one on a Jodie Fiacco homerun in the second inning to move in front 1-0. Junior Bobbi Jo Gonnello (Clifton, NJ) then tied the game at 1-1 for the Red Foxes with an RBI single in the third inning.

Marist moved ahead 2-1 in the sixth when freshman Barbara Leasure (Fairless Hills, PA) lead off the inning with a double and later scored on a single by freshman Allison Bartley (Manalapan, NJ).

An unearned run by the Saints in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 2-2 and forced extra innings. Fiacco then hit her second homer of the day to lead off the bottom of the eighth and win the game for Siena.

Freshman Nichole Rawson (Palmdale, CA) (5-6) was charged the loss while giving up eight hits and three runs, two earned, and striking out five. Amanda Cavitt (2-3) pitched the final two innings in earning the win.

Marist started the scoring in game two with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning on a bases loaded walk by Gonnello and RBI single from senior Jessica Shorey (Scarborough, ME). The Saints then responded with a two-run homer by Sarah Rose in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at 2-2.

The score remained the same until the top of the seventh when junior Kara Lacey (Cheshire, CT) put the Red Foxes in front to stay with a solo home run, her second of the year.

Freshman Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) improved to 3-9 on the year with the win, while allowing only six hits and striking out a career high nine batters. Tisha Salamino (2-7) was handed the loss for Siena

The Red Foxes will return to action tomorrow at home when they host Stony Brook starting at 1:00 PM on the Gartland Commons Athletic Fields
