Red Foxes Swept by Fairfield 8-0, 7-0

Fairfield, CT. - The Red Foxes were swept in a MAAC double header at Fairfield 8-0, 7-0 at the Alumni Softball Field in Connecticut.

In the first game Fairfield scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-0 lead. The score remained the same until the fifth when the Stags added three more runs making the score 6-0, before scroing twice more in the sixth for the 8-0 victory.

The best scoring opportunity for Marist occured in the sixth inning when senior Jessica Shorey (Scarborough, ME) and sophomore Kara Lacey (Cheshire, CT) had back to back two out singles, before a groundout ended the threat. Shorey and Lacey each had to hits a piece for the Red Foxes.

Freshman Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) (3-11) was dealt the loss on the mound for Marist, while Mellissa Santos (22-10) earned the win for Fairfield.

The second game saw more of the same as the Stags went ahead 7-0 after two inning behind a two run first and a five run second. Marist threatened in the fourth after junior Kathleen McEvily (White Palins, NY) doubled and advance to third on a sacrifice, before a strike out ended the inning. McEvily had two hits and sophomore Becky Rakos (Shelton, CT) doubled in the game for the Red Foxes.

Santos picked up another win on the mound for Fairfield, while junior Nicole Fox (Temecula, CA) was on the lossing end for Marist.

The Red Foxes return to action on Tuesday, April 30th with a doubleheader at Seton Hall.
