Hamilton, NY - The Marist College softball team was nipped by host Colgate, 1-0 and 9-6 earlier this afternoon at the Eaton Street Field in Hamilton, NY.
In the first game freshman Nichole Rawson (Palmdale, CA) and Elena Issac were locked in a pitcher's duel until the bottom of the seventh when Amanda Paolucci's home run with one out sent Colgate to a 1-0 victory.
Rawson fell to 5-10 on the season while allowing only five hits in the game. Freshman Allison Bartley (Manalapan, NJ) had two hits of the Red Foxes five hits off of Issac, who improved to 19-7 on the year.
In game two Colgate raced out to an early 3-0 lead scoring three times in the bottom of the first, two coming on a home run by Natalie Rawson. Marist then snapped a 49 inning scoreless streak in the second inning scoring two runs on RBI singles from Bartley and sophomore Kara Lacey (Cheshire, CT) to cut the lead to 3-2.
Three more runs by the Raiders in the third inning gave them a 6-2 advantage. The Red Foxes then responded with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth, when Rawson matched her twin sister's earlier homerun and freshman Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) crushed a two run double to left center making the score 6-5.
Colgate put another three runs on the board in the bottom half of the fifth to move in front 9-5, before junior Bobbi Jo Gonnello (Clifton, NJ) singled home Lacey in the sixth to end the scoring.
Rawson had three of the Red Foxes season high 14 hits, as five other players record two hits a piece in the game for Marist. On the mound, Issac pitched the first four innings to earn her school record 20th win against seven losses for Colgate, while Blake (3-12) was tagged with the loss for the Red Foxes.
Marist now stands at 9-32-1 on the season, while the pair of wins leaves Colgate at 28-18 on the year.
The Red Foxes will close out the season this weekend by hosting double headers against Niagara at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 4th and against Canisius at 11:00 AM on Sunday, May 5th. All Game will be played at the Gartland Commons Athletic Field
