West Point, NY-The Marist College softball team dropped its doubleheader, 4-0, 7-5, to the Army Black Knights this afternoon at the Army Softball Complex in a non-conference match-up. The Red Foxes are now 6-19 on the season.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Red Foxes got only two hits off of Army's Ashlie Christian. Freshman Chrystine McHugh (Port Ewen, NY) and Allison Bartley (Manalapan, NJ) both went 1-3 in the 4-0 decision.
Nicole Fox (Temecula, CA) pitched a complete game for Marist, giving up four runs, eight hits, while striking out one and walking none.
In the second game, Marist took a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth but were unable to hold off the Black Knights who exploded for five runs in the inning. The Red Foxes picked up one more run in the top of the seventh when Bobbi Jo Gonnello (Clifton, NJ) hit her second homerun of the season.
Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) pitched 4 1/3 innings , giving up seven runs, striking out two and walking two. Elizabeth Moyer (Scio, NY) came in on relief and pitched 1 2/3 innings, striking out two and giving up no runs.
The Red Foxes return to action Saturday, April 12th, when they host conference rival Siena at 1:00 p.m. on North Field.
