New Haven, Conn.-The Marist College women's softball team fell 9-4 in the first game, and 8-2 in the second, to the Yale University Bulldogs in a non-conference match-up, this afternoon, on DeWitt Family Field. The Red Foxes drop to 6-27 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 18-22.
Yale took charge of game one in the second inning when they scored four runs off of Marist starting pitcher Nichole Rawson (Palmdale, CA). The Red Foxes cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth, scoring two, but the Bulldogs responded in the bottom half and scored four more runs before Nicole Fox (Temecula, CA) came in to relief pitch. Marist scored once in the fifth and sixth but was unable to overcome the lead Yale had built.
Senior captain, Kathleen McEvily (White Plains, NY) went 3-4 in the game, batting in two and scoring one. She hit her career-high 11th double. Rawson went 1-3 with an RBI, while Allison Bartley (Manalapan, NJ) hit 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
In the second game, the Red Foxes found themselves with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before Yale scored three in the bottom half of the inning. The game went by with three scoreless innings before the Bulldogs tacked on four more runs, sealing the victory.
McEvily went 2-3, while freshman Chrystine McHugh (Port Ewen, NY) went 1-2, scoring both of Marist's runs. Junior Kara Lacey (Cheshire, Conn.) finished with an RBI, and Barbara Leasure (Fairless Hills, PA) went 1-3.
Red Fox pitcher, Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) pitched five innings giving up nine hits, while striking out two before Elizabeth Moyer (Scio, NY) came in on relief pitching one inning, giving up one earned run.
Marist returns to action Saturday, April 26th at 1:00 p.m. when they host Rider University.
