Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College softball team won their rematch over the University of Hartford Hawks, 7-6, this afternoon on North Field. The Red Foxes now post a 3-16 record overall, winning their second straight, while the Hawks drop to 1-12 with their only win coming over Marist at the Virginia Tech Tournament. The second game of the doubleheader was called in the second due to darkness.
In the bottom of the seventh with the score being tied at 6-6, Nichole Rawson (Palmdale, CA) scored the game winner on a wild pitch by Caitlin Eichler. Rawson led off the inning with a single, advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Bryanne Thitchener (Poughkeepsie, NY). She proceeded to steal third base, setting up the winning run.
The Red Foxes led 3-1 after a three-run third inning, but the Hawks fought back to go ahead with a four-run sixth inning. Ryan Williams gave Hartford a 4-3 lead on a bases loaded single, scoring Monica Evrard.
Nicole Fox (Temecula, CA) earned her first victory of the year, relieving Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) in the top of the sixth. Eichler pitched a complete game for the Hawks.
Bobbi Jo Gonnello (Clifton, NJ) went 2-2 with two RBI, while Kathleen McEvily (White Plains, NY) went 1-3 with a run and one RBI. Freshman Chrystine McHugh (Port Ewen, NY) was 1-4 with an RBI. Rawson and Katie Eskin (Edison, NJ) scored two runs apiece for the Red Foxes.
The Red Foxes return to action Saturday, April 5th, when they host conference rival Fairfield at 1:00 p.m. on North Field.
