Edison, NJ-Marist College had four members of the women's lacrosse team named to the 2003 All-MAAC team, while five members were earned All-Academic honors, it was announced this evening.
Junior Lauren O'Keefe (West Chester, PA) and sophomore Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY) earned First Team All-MAAC honors, while teammates Molly Hanley (Simsbury, Conn.) and Patricia Leahy (New Hyde Park, NY) were named to the second team for women's lacrosse.
Named to the first team, O'Keefe is part of the Red Foxes defensive unit, picking up 32 ground balls and winning 14 draw controls this season to help Marist to a 3-3 conference record, and its fourth consecutive berth in the MAAC Tournament. Petersen led the team in goals, setting a new career-high with 38. She also set new highs in assists with 11 and points with 49, while starting all 15 games for the Red Foxes.
Earning second team honors, Hanley led the team in assists in her final season with 21, a new career-high, which also ranked her 17th in the country leading into this week. She also recorded nine goals for a total of 30 points on the season. Leahy had an outstanding year on defense, recording 60 ground balls, leading the team in that category, while starting 15 games for Marist.
Earning 2003 MAAC All-Academic Team honors were sophomore Francesca DiLorenzo (Nyack, NY), who finished with eight goals, junior Maria Reoch (Shirley, NY), tallying 16 points on the season, sophomore Lauren Sherman (Media, PA), finishing with 12 goals and 12 assists, senior Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NJ), who set a new career-high in goals with 28 in her final season, and junior Katie Tutak (North Tonawanda, NY), who ended the season with 21 ground balls and five goals.
The Red Foxes are the fourth seed in the MAAC Tournament, facing number one seed Fairfield, Friday, May 2nd at 12:00 p.m. in the first women's semifinal.
