Softball Sweeps Niagara, 9-2 and 6-3, In Conference Doubleheader

Buffalo, NY-The Marist College softball team wrapped up its season with 9-2 and 6-3 wins versus conference foe Niagara, this afternoon. The Red Foxes improved to 7-9 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action and 10-31 overall. Niagara drops to 6-10 in league play, and 7-27 overall.

In the first game, the Red Foxes exploded for 16 hits off of Purple Eagle pitching. Bobbi Jo Gonnello (Clifton, NJ), Nichole Rawson (Palmdale, CA), and Allison Bartley (Manalapan, NJ) all went 2-4 with Gonnello scoring two runs, Rawson scoring one while also having two RBI, and Bartley hitting a double, scoring two runs, and having an RBI. Senior Kathleen McEvily (White Plains, NY) finished 3-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, and hitting her career-high 14th double. Kara Lacey (Cheshire, Conn.) also had a solid day at the plate going 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Senior Nicole Fox (Temecula, CA) pitched a strong game, giving up six hits, one earned run, while striking out three for the win.

The second game saw Marist scatter 12 hits for the 6-3 victory over the Purple Eagles. Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) got the win on the mound, giving up eight hits, three runs, and striking out two. Elizabeth Moyer (Scio NY) came in on relief in the sixth inning giving up one hit and striking out one.

Gonnello went 2-4 again, with a double and two RBI, while Lacey, Rawson, and Jasmery Polanco (Bay Shore, NY) also hit .500 for the game. Lacey hit her third double of the day, while Rawson scored two runs. Polanco hit a double and recorded an RBI for the Red Foxes. McEvily finished 1-3 with a sacrifice fly, and Bryanne Thitchener (Poughkeepsie, NY) went 2-3 with a double and a run scored.

The Red Foxes concluded their season on a positive note, posting victories in their final two games.
