The Marist College men's tennis team won its first dual match of the season this evening, defeating Holy Cross, 7-0.
Senior Chris Hagen defeated Brian Kelly in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Mark Santucci needed just two sets to beat junior Nick Casolaro, 6-3, 6-3, while junior Michael Nassif downed Mike Morano, 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Frank Algier continued to play well for the Red Foxes, winning his match against John Deaver, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles action, the team of Hagen and Santucci downed Kelly and Casolaro, 8-4. The duo of Nassif and Ray Josephs beat Morano and Deaver, 8-2. The freshman pairing of Algier and Jeff Nguyen defeated senior David Daepp and sophomore Colin Missett, 8-2.
Marist(1-0) hits the court again this weekend, September 26-28th as the travel to Providence, RI for the Brown Invitational. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play for the Red Foxes begins on September 20th as they travel to Siena, where Marist will look to remain undefeated in conference play for the sixth straight year.
