Final Stats

Moraga, CA - The Marist women's basketball team lost a tough battle to West Coast Conference foe St. Mary's College in the second game of its trip to California. The Red Foxes went 1-1 during their trip to the west coast, picking up a win over San Francisco and falling 49-40 tonight. Junior Fifi Camara was one rebound shy of a double-double, picking up 11 points and nine boards in the loss.

Both teams struggled shooting in the first half, with Marist netting just 20.6% of its shots and the Gaels draining 18.5%. The Lady Foxes pulled ahead by as much as 14-6 with under 8:00 remaining in the first, but a Carey Noakes jumper pulled the Gaels within four. The Foxes went 50% from three-point range in the first half, including a late trey from Kristen Vilardi, propelling them to a 19-14 lead at halftime.

The Gaels came out solid in the second, scoring seven unanswered points before Camara tied it at 21 apiece. The Red Foxes kept the game close for the first part of the half but St. Mary's pulled away as the clock dwindled, going ahead by as many as 10 points with under 7:00 left in the game. Marist could not match up against the Gaels 54.2% shooting for the half and St. Mary's pulled away with late-game free throws.

Freshman Nikki Flores was Marist's second leading scorer with eight points along with two assists and two steals. Kristin Keller chipped in seven points and seven rebounds, continuing her solid three-point shooting going 2-2 from behind the arc.

The Red Foxes return to action when they take on Cornell at the McCann Center at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
