Macon, GA-The Marist College women's softball team split two games during the second day of action at the Comfort Inn Mercer Classic this afternoon.
The Red Foxes picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Bowling Green (2-1). After being held hitless through three innings, Marist notched six-straight hits including junior Barbara Leasure's double to left which knocked in two runs to make the score 2-1. Marist added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth on a Chrystine McHugh solo shot to right. Senior Liz Moyer (1-0) picked up her first win allowing six hits and a walk while striking out four in five innings of work. Freshman Lyndsay Ward came into pitch two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, for her first collegiate save.
In the second game of the day against Wichita State (6-7) the Red Foxes were shutout 7-0. Freshman Nicole Sciacca and sophomore Katie Eskin recorded the only two hits off of the Shockers' Margo Pruis who struck out 11 batters. Eskin went 1-3, while Sciacca went 1-2 with a walk and a stolen base. Ward picked up the loss allowing five runs on six hits in two innings of work. Danielle Blake pitched five innings in relief allowing two runs on five hits.
The Red Foxes wrap up their final day of play tomorrow, Sunday, February 29th at the Mercer Classic with a 10:00am start against Oakland University.
