Dover, DE- The Marist College softball team fell to Delaware State 4-2 this afternoon at Dover Little League Field.
The Red Foxes opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on a Jasmery Polanco double that scored second baseman Barbara Leasure. Delaware State tied the score a half inning later after leadoff hitter Kathryn Powell crossed the plate on a fielder's choice. Polanco would finish the day going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Chrystine McHugh opened the third inning with a triple down the right field line and scored on a throwing error by catcher Catrina Ansbach after Allison Bartley reached safely on a fielder's choice. The Hornets answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
The two teams remained knotted 2-2 until the bottom of fifth when the Hornets added two runs on two hits. The Red Foxes were unable to regain the lead as Janice Savage held Marist two one hit over the last two innings.
Senior Elizabeth Moyer pitched five innings giving up four runs on six hits, walking one. Danielle Blake pitched one scoreless inning in relief.
The Red Foxes are back in action tomorrow as they take part in the George Mason Tournament. Marist faces St. Francis (NY) at 9:00am followed by Niagara at 11:00am.
