Poughkeepsie, NY- The Marist College softball team won its first home game of the season in dramatic fashion defeating Army 2-1 in 10 innings this afternoon at Gartland Athletic Field.
With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning, catcher Bridget Hurlman singled down the right field line driving in Megan Culvert. Culvert was pinch running for junior Barbara Leasure who began the string of Red Fox baserunners in the tenth singling to center. Allison Bartley followed with a single to center and catcher Jasmery Polanco reached safely on a bunt.
Senior hurler Elizabeth Moyer went 10 innings, giving up one run, none earned, on just two hits, while striking out four Army batters.
The Black Knights got on the board early as Lauren Gobar, who singled to open the inning, crossed the plate after throwing error by Army would get only one more hit, coming in the second inning.
Marist tied the game 1-1 in the third inning as freshman Lyndsay Ward scored on a bunt single by Bartley. It was the third of 11 Marist its on the day. Bartley finished the game, going 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Leasure and freshman Nicole Sciacca each went 2-for-5, while Sciacca picked up her ninth stolen base of the season.
The second game against the Black Knights was called due to darkness. The Red Foxes are back in action (weather permitting) tomorrow, Wednesday, March 31st at 2:30pm against Harvard.
