POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Top-seeded Wagner College defeated #4 Marist College, 15-2, in the first semifinal of the 2004 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Water Polo Championship, held at Marist's McCann Natatorium.
Wagner took an 8-0 lead after the first quarter, with three goals by Amanda Heintzelman. The Seahawks then took an 11-0 lead at the half.
After the break, Wagner scored three more goals in the third quarter to go ahead, 14-0. Courtney Crase scored two of those goals for the Seahawks. Marist got on the board in the fourth quarter, with one goal apiece from Caroyln Rosler and Joelle Evanovsky.
Katie Hauck and Sarah Yokubaitis combined for five saves in goal for Wagner. Amanda Long posted seven stops for Marist.
Wagner will play the winner of the Villanova/Iona game for the championship title at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 2. Marist will play in the consolation game at noon.
