POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Redshirt sophomore Ryan Stilphen (Bay Village, Ohio) posted a career-high 20 points (8-for-11 shooting) to go with six rebounds in Marist's 69-51 victory over St. Bonaventure Wednesday evening at the McCann Center. Marist improved to 4-4 overall, while the Bonnies dropped to 5-4 overall. The win extended the Bonnies road losing streak to 30 in a row.
The Red Foxes won last year's meeting 74-58 in Olean, N.Y.
Marist did most of its damage inside, outscoring the Bonnies in the paint 30-16 and holding the opposition to seven assists.
The Red Foxes raced out to a 14-point lead on two occasions in the first half, the last on a jumper by sophomore Shae McNamara (Milwaukee, Wisc.) at the 4:36 mark to put the Red Foxes up 32-18.
Marist maintained its double-digit lead throughout the second half, growing it to as much as 20 on a 3-pointer by junior Miles Orman (Englewood, N.J.) at the 9:06 mark.
Junior James Smith (Nyack, N.Y.) scored 11 points to go with five rebounds and a season-high five blocks in just 19 minutes. Junior Jared Jordan had eight points, eight assists and three steals.
Senior Carl Hood (Houston, Tx.) led the Red Foxes in rebounding with six.
St. Bonaventure was led by Ahmad Smith's 16 points, while Paul Williams and Patrick Lottin had seven apiece. A.J. Hawkins had four assists.
The Red Foxes shot 51.9 percent from the field (28-for-54), while the Bonnies shot just 31.6 percent (18-for-57). Marist also made 8-for-20 from 3-point range (40.0 percent) for the second consecutive game, while the Bonnies made just 18.2 percent (4-for-22). One of the few sour notes came at the free throw line for the Red Foxes, where they hit just 41.7 percent (5-for-12). St. Bonaventure connected on 11-for-17 (64.7 percent).
The Red Foxes will take a week off until its next game at Florida Atlantic on Thursday, December 29 at 7 p.m.
