4x400 Relay Shatters School Record at Armory

Feb. 5, 2005

New York, N.Y. - The Marist men's 4x400 relay placed seventh overall and shattered the school record by more than 4.5 seconds Saturday at the New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational.

The team of sophomore Mike Bamberger, sophomore Bryan Quinn, freshman Greg Marks and sophomore Brian DeMarco completed the relay in 3:21.42, eclipsing the previous mark of 3:25.95, which was set in February 2004 at Boston University. The record relay mark came one day after Bamberger, Quinn, DeMarco and senior captain Geoff Decker placed fourth in the 4x800 relay at the Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden.

Bamberger led the relay off with a 49.9-second split. Quinn followed with a 50.7-second split, followed by Marks (50.6) and DeMarco (49.9). The record relay time was a little more than two seconds slower than the IC4A qualifying mark in that event (3:19.40).

The men's track team returns to action on Friday and Saturday at the St. Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
