Marist freshman Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, NY) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week as announced by the league offices today. She was previously given the award on March 6, and is the only newcomer in the league to have received it twice. Diener had another tremendous week for Marist, leading the Red Foxes by averaging three goals and one assist per game.
Diener scored the game-winning goal against Niagara with just 1:23 left in regulation, capping off an impressive game. Additionally, she tallied 17 groundballs including eight against Sacred Heart, tying the school record for most in a single game. Diener had eight draw controls, boosting her season total to a team-leading 29.
Against Canisius and Niagara, she recorded her team-leading sixth and seventh hat tricks of the season. Diener continues to be among the leaders in the MAAC and NCAA in goals scored per game with 3.4 per contest. She leads Marist in the following categories: goals (37), points (43), groundballs (33), draw controls (29) and is second by one in both of the following: assists (six) and caused turnovers (12).
Diener and the Red Foxes will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Patriot League foe Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. on Leonidoff Field.
