Softball Falls Victim to Iona Perfect Game

April 30, 2005

Box Score

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Marist softball team (20-18, 6-3 MAAC) had no answers for Iona pitcher Becky Riccitelli today in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Gartland Field, falling 2-0 to Riccitelli's perfect game. The nightcap was postponed due to inclement weather; it will be made up later this season on a date to be determined.

DP Alison Higgs came up with an RBI double in the top of the second for the only run the Gaels would need. Iona (25-12, 10-1 MAAC) would tack on an insurance run in the fifth as RF Pamela de la Llave misplayed LF Stacy Moyer's single, allowing 2B Liz Hammel to score.

Riccitelli struck out 13 of the 21 batters she faced. Freshman Megan Rigos took the loss for Marist, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks in seven innings. She struck out seven.

The Red Foxes host Fairfield in a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m. Senior center fielder Allison Bartley will be honored in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony.
