April 9, 2005

Lawrenceville, N.J. - Sophomore Brian DeMarco placed first and broke his own school record in the 400-meter dash and the Marist 3,200-meter relay team captured a narrow victory in school-record fashion Saturday to lead the Red Fox track team at the Rider Invitational.

DeMarco edged Rider's Anthony Reid at the finish line with a mark of 49.67 seconds. Reid finished in 49.72 seconds. The time eclipses DeMarco's 2004 outdoor best of 50.92 seconds.

In the 3,200-meter relay, sophomore Mike Bamberger came from behind on the anchor leg and edged out Fordham's anchor leg by posting a 1:54.6 split. The team of senior Steve Hicks, sophomore Bryan Quinn, senior Geoff Decker and Bamberger finished in 7:53.71, edging Fordham (7:53.93) and breaking the five-year-old school record of 7:55.41.

Sophomore Mark Fernandez placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:55.64, posting Marist's only other first-place finish.

Senior Clayton Berry placed third in the discus (37.90 meters) and second in the shot put (13.18 meters). Both were personal-best marks in outdoor track.

The Red Foxes finished third in the four-team meet with 88 points. Host Rider won with 304 points. Fordham was second with 195.5 points. Wagner was fourth with 75.5 points.
