POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Men's Tennis Squad picked up two impressive wins on Saturday, 6-1 over Montreal and 7-0 over Hartford. With the wins Marist moves to a perfect 3-0 on the season and will be back in action on October 19 at the ITA Regionals.
The Foxes dropped just two matches on the day, a singles match against Montreal and first doubles against Hartford.
In the early match against Montreal, Marist's number one doubles team of Pedro Genovese (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Federico Rolon (San Diego, Calif.) cruised to an 8-3 win over Montreal's pair of Nicolas Veilleux and David Desrochers, before falling to Hartford's top pair of Artur Muller and Jeff Coat, 9-8 (7-5) in the afternoon match.
In singles action, Marist dropped just one match the entire day as Montreal's Desrochers defeated Antonio Oliver (Madrid, Spain) 6-2, 6-1. Against Hartford Marist was in just two matches that went the distance. Genovese defeated Muller 7-5, did not finish, while Oliver won his afternoon match by default. Gregory Marks (Newburgh, N.Y.) topped Hartford's Coats 7-5, did not finish and Ray Josephs (Rose Valley, Pa.) won his match over Hartford Shartak Gowoar 6-0, 4-0 retired.
The only two matches that were played to completion involved Rolon, who defeated Hartford's Emmett Drak 6-1, 6-0 and Frank Algier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) who defeated Aaron Keoden , 6-0, 6-0.
Marist will return to action on the 19th for the four day ITA Regionals in Philadelphia , Pa.
