EDISON, N.J. - The Marist Men's and Women's Track teams combined to place 30 student athletes on the MAAC All-Academic Team. The men's team was led by Mike Rolek (Maplewood, N.J.) who's cumulative GPA is 3.88 in communications. On the women's side Lisa D'Aniello (Niskayuna, N.Y.) leads the way with a 3.92 GPA in psychology/special education.
Sean Prinz (3.45, English/literature) and Bryan VanSteenbergen (3.76, communications) represent the lone seniors from the men's squad. On the women's team the class of 2006 is represented by Andrea DiTrani (3.8, athletic training), Cheryl Fil (3.26, psychology), Mackenzie Klump (3.53, fine arts/studio), Lauren LeMoine (3.33, psychology), Christine Pelitier (3.4, psychology/special education), Donna Stallman (3.7, communications), Sheila Driscoll (3.2, psychology/special education) and Denise Tumulty (3.78, business administration/marketing).
The junior class on the men's side is represented by Todd Bivona (3.41, communications/sports communications), Matt Walsh (3.49, communications and Tom Williams (3.38, business administration). The women's team has six members of the junior class represented, led by Megan Schlittler (3.64, communications). Classmates Catherine Fargione (3.27, business administration/marketing), Christine McDevitt (3.6, communications), Bernice Patten (3.44, psychology/special education), Rachel Watson (3.46, communications) and Kristine Williams (3.4, communications/public relations) round out the representatives from the junior class.
The men's sophomore class is represented by six members, led by Rolek's 3.88. He is joined on the team by Brandon Cartica (3.55, Criminal Justice), Thomas Dixon (3.23, Business Administration), Ted Marak (3.66, Biology), Matt Maynes (3.2, Communications) and Joseph Tarantello (3.46, Business Administration). The women's sophomore class is represented by five runners, led by D'Aniello's 3.92. Also, making the team are Valerie Capullo (3.74, Communications), Sarah Domermuth (3.57, psychology/special education), Kerri Mannino (3.83, business administration) and Lindsay Rappleyea (3.2, psychology).
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
The Red Foxes ran to a fourth place finish at last weeks MAAC Championships and will be back in action on February 24 when they compete in the New York University Invitational.
