Box Score

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.-The Marist softball squad took the first game of a doubleheader from Central Connecticut State by a score of 15-3 Wednesday at the CCSU Softball Field, pushing the Red Foxes' winning streak to seven straight. The two teams did not play the second game of the doubleheader as it was called after two and a half innings due to darkness. The Blue Devils fell to 1-17 on the season, while the Red Foxes improved to 14-5 overall.

Senior Ali Brander led the Blue Devils at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a double. Marist was led by Jessica Green's (Manassas, Va.) 4-for-6 effort which featured three doubles and six RBI. Megan Rigos (9-2, Pittsburgh, Pa.) picked up the win for the Red Foxes, while freshman Brittany Salvatore (1-4) took the loss for Central. Rigos went the distance, yielding just one earned run on five hits and two walks, with five strikeouts.

Central struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Pam Shifrin reached first base after getting hit by a pitch from Rigos. Shifrin then advanced to second on a single by Melissa Pelletier and to third on a fielding error by first basemen Annie Castellano (Hauppauge, N.Y.). She would later score on a base hit by Brander. Pelleiter would score on a RBI ground out by sophomore Karen Costes.

The Blue Devils would hold to 2-0 lead until the top of the fourth inning when the Red Foxes would score three runs. Central would tie the score at 3-3 when Jessica Caron reached on a walk and then scored on a RBI double by Brander.

Marist would then take the 6-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning and plate nine runs in the seventh and final frame. Jasmery Polanco (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also connected on her third home run of the season for Marist.

The Red Foxes will be back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. in doubleheader action against Manhattan at home.
