VILLANOVA, PA. - Kari Weston (Chino Hills, Calif.) continued her strong rookie campaign as she scored five times in two games on Saturday. Jillian Jefferds (Naperville, Ill.) added four markers as Marist dropped a 9-8 sudden death overtime decision to Wagner and then rebounded for a 9-4 win over Saint Francis (N.Y.).
Marist and Wagner played even through regulation and through two overtime periods on Saturday, until the Seahawks scored the game winner with 17 seconds left in the sudden death period. Jefferds led the way for Marist as she scored three goals, while Weston and fellow freshman Katelin McCahill each posted two tallies apiece. Senior Mary Grisey (Huntington Beach, Calif.) added Marist's other goal. Jefferds would add two steals in the game, while McCahill recorded an assist.
Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) went the distance in the cage for Marist and made 18 saves.
In game two Marist would rebound from the heartbreaking loss to earn their fourth league win. Weston led the offensive charge for Marist with three goals. Six other players recorded goals for the Foxes as they cruised to a 9-4 win over the Terriers. McCahill would continue her balanced attack as she scored a goal and added two more assists in the win.
Davis again got the nod in the net and played the full game, making six saves in the win for the Foxes.
With the split on Saturday, Marist stands at 17-12 on the season and 4-2 in league play. The Red Foxes will be off until April 22 when they travel to Staten Island for games against Siena and Iona.
