Final Stats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-The Bucknell football squad rolled up all 390 yards of its total offense on the ground on homecoming Saturday as it defeated Marist 48-19 at Leonidoff Field. The Bison improved to 3-2 overall, while Marist dropped to 1-4.
Bucknell wideout Daniel Zvara posted the first score with 11:42 to play in the first stanza with a 51-yard end around play to put the Bison up 7-0. The Red Foxes have yet to score in the first quarter this season.
Bucknell scored three times in the second period on a pair of 35-yard scampers by running back A.J. Kizekai and a 12-yard jaunt by running back Peter Kaufman. Marist got on the board just before the half on a 36-yard scoring toss from junior quarterback Stephen McGrath (Manasquan, N.J.) to junior wideout Tim Keegan (Middlebury, Conn.). The score was McGrath's six touchdown pass and Keegan's second TD reception of the 2006 campaign.
The Bison answered quickly in the second half with a nine-yard run by running back Josh DeStefano at the 9:59 mark and on a one-yard scoring carry by quarterback Marcello Trigg at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Marist sophomore running back Ray Fiumefreddo (Wayne, N.J.) registered the first touchdown of his career with a four-yard run with 3:19 left in the game. After Bucknell's Corin Erby ripped off a 47-yard touchdown carry, Red Foxes' junior quarterback Matthew Semerano (Port Jervis, N.Y.) hit freshman wideout Chris Ferguson (Rockleigh, N.J.) for an eight-yard touchdown as time expired for the final margin.
DeStefano led Bucknell on the ground with 10 carries for 101 yards, while Marist was led by senior Frankie Farrington's (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) 34 yards on 11 rushes. McGrath finished 8-for-15 through the air with a touchdown toss and an interception. Bucknell quarterback Terrance Wilson completed none of his four his attempts.
Marist senior wideout Prince Prempeh (Hamilton, N.J.) led the Red Foxes with four receptions for 47 yards.
Defensive back David Frisbey led the Bison with nine tackles, while senior safety Nick Salis (Nashua, N.H.) had nine stops for Marist.
The Red Foxes will open MAAC play next week when they head to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on the Explorers.
