POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist Athletics Department will kick off the 2007-08 basketball season this Friday night, October 12, at its annual "Marist Madness" event. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the McCann Center, with doors opening at 6 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Marist Basketball T-shirt.
The festivities will include performances by the Marist College Cheerleaders, Dance Team and Band. Other activities will include the fourth annual Dodgeball competition sponsored by the Marist Housing Office, a shooting skills competition, a slam dunk contest and Rookie Challenge. One randomly chosen fan will have the chance to win $10,000 by making a half-court shot. Other prizes include free round trip tickets to anywhere that JetBlue flies.
Fans will be introduced to both the Maris men's and women's basketball teams for the first time this season and will hear from Marist Men's Head Coach Matt Brady and Women's Head Coach Ryan Stilphen (Bay Village, Ohio) and Meg Dahlman (Spencerport, N.Y.) will address the crowd and give a preview of the upcoming season.
