POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Rachele Fitz (Seven Hills, Ohio) was named MAAC Co-Player of the Week on Monday after leading Marist to a 3-0 record in the Oahu Classic this past weekend. This is the first Player of the Week award for the Red Foxes this season.
Fitz led Marist in scoring in wins against Utah, Nebraska, and Eastern Washington. The sophomore started the week with a 26 point, 10 rebound effort in a 70-66 overtime win over Utah. She followed that up with a career-high 28 points against Nebraska, pulling down 11 rebounds in a 66-59 victory. Against Eastern Washington, Fitz finished the Oahu Classic with 16 points and seven boards against Eastern Washington. For the week, Fitz averaged 23.3 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game. She shot 52.4% from the field and was 26-26 at the free-throw line. Laura Menty of Siena shares the honor with Fitz.
Marist will play their home opener Thursday night at the McCann Center against Yale. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
