New York, N.Y. - Senior captain Christine McDevitt (Woodbury, CT) culminated a long road back to form after an injury plagued junior year with dominating school record victories in the 55-meter hurdles (8.32) and the 200-meter dash (26.17) leading the women to an upset third place finish at the MAAC Indoor Championships contested at the New Balance Track & Field Center in Manhattan.
McDevitt also placed third in the long jump (5.24) and ran a strong anchor leg in the 4x400. Senior Nicole Donadio (Caldwell, NJ) and freshman Justine Colabraro (Chatham, NJ) set school records in the High Jump (1.55) and the Pole Vault (2.90) respectively.
Junior Lisa D'Aniello (Niskayuna, NY) placed third in the mile (5:11.70), 800-meters (2:21.59) and raced strong 1,200 and 400 legs in back-to-back Distance Medley Relay and 4x400 relays.
Junior Christine Wahl (Lancaster, NY) continued her comeback from early season illness with second place finish in the 800-meters (2:18.76) and a strong 1,600 leg in the second place Distance Medley Relay. Freshman Holly Burns (Stafford Springs, CT) came back from a disappointing fifth in the 400 to capture second in the 200 (26.59). Sophomore Katie Topalian (Camp Hill, PA) set a personal best with an eighth place in the 5,000-meters (19:02.14), and freshman Brittany Burns (Watertown, NY) ran a solid mile, placing fifth in 5:15.30.
Aside from their accomplishments on the track, Marist had 16 athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic team. Christine McDevitt (Woodbury, Conn./Advertising), Katie Topalian (Camp Hill, Pa./French & Fashion Design) and Rachel Watson (Brick, N.J./ Psychology/Special Education) all earned academic honors. To earn this honor a student athlete must complete two semesters at her institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.2. Marist's 16 selections led all MAAC schools.
The women travel back to the Armory on Friday, February 23 to compete at the NYU Last Chance Invitational.
