MIAMI, FLA. - The Marist Softball Team dropped two games on Saturday, falling 15-2 to Purdue and 2-1 to Florida International. Senior captain Christine Jakobsen (Midland Park, N.J.) had two hits against the Boilermakers, while Melissa Giordano (Stamford, Conn.) and Pamela de la Llave (West Orange, N.J.) picked up a pair of hits against FIU.

Against the Boilermakers, the Foxes were out hit in the game 13-5. Jakobsen collected two of the five hits, going 2-3 in the game with a run scored. Jessica Green (Manassas, Va.), Lindsey Kinel (East Hartford, Conn.) and Alison Catenacci (Medford, Mass.) each picked up a base hit each in the contest. Kinel also scored a run for the Red Foxes, who fell to 1-7 on the season with the loss.

Green took the loss (0-1) for the Foxes, going 2.0 innings and giving up six hits and seven runs, only four of which were earned. Green walked two and struck out one batter in her first appearance of the season. Kristen Merlino (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) came on in relief and pitched three innings.

Purdue featured four hitters who picked up at least two hits and five of its hits went for extra bases.

Brook Baker went the distance for the Boilermakers giving up just one earned run on the day and striking out two batters. Baker improved to 2-5 on the season with the win.

Against the Golden Panthers, Giordano went 2-4 and drove in Marist's only run. She droev in de la Llave who went 2-3 in the contest, as the duo combined for four of Marist's six hits. Jakobsen and Green collected the other two hits for the Foxes.

The golden Panthers scored the game winning run with two outs in the seventh inning off of Marist starter Megan Rigos (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Desiree Sink drove in the game winner to send FIU to their second win of the season.

Rigos went 6.2 innings, surrendering nine hits, two walks and two earned runs. The lefthander also struck out seven batters as she fell to 0-3.

The Foxes, 1-8 on the season, will close out their stay in Miami when they take on #8/11 Stanford tomorrow at noon.
