SCHOOL COMBINED RECORD FALLS AGAIN: Marist's men's and women's programs have racked up impressive win totals this season. The Marist women have won 23 games, while the men have tallied 22. Last season, Marist's women also won 23, while the men won 19 for a record total of 42. Both squads could rank among the best-ever in MAAC combined wins and conference wins once this season is over.

BREAKING NEW GROUND?: With a win Saturday against Siena, the Red Foxes would set a men's school record for Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference wins with 14 and tie the school mark for overall wins with 23. The men would also capture the outright MAAC regular season championship for the first time in school history. Marist shared the title during the 2001-02 season with Rider at 13-5, but was the second seed during the MAAC Tournament.

CAREER-HIGH: Marist senior center James Smith launched a career-best eight 3-point attempts in the 67-60 victory at Fairfield.

FARMER EAGER TO SEE SIENA: Marist forward Ben Farmer, a 5.3 point per game scorer over the course of his career, has averaged 10.2 points against Siena. He also shoots 56.2 percent from the field (18-32) and a blistering 57.9 percent (11-19) from 3-point range against the Saints.

CRANKING UP THE D: Marist has allowed less than 65 points in five consecutive games. The last time the program could boast a streak that long was the 1985-86 season when the squad accomplished the feat twice that year. The all-time school record for holding consecutive opponents below 65 is 11 games, which was accomplished over the last 10 games of the 1984-85 season and the season-opener of the 1985-86 campaign.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Marist has recorded 16 double-doubles this season, with guard James Smith has posted the other four.

IRONMAN: Marist's Will Whittington is close behind and will participate in his 110th against the Saints.

HE DID IT AGAIN: For the third season in a row, Marist senior guard Will Whittington has broken Marist's single-season records for 3-pointers made and attempted in a season. His fifth 3-pointer and his ninth attempt in the 73-57 win over Manhattan gave him 104 and 255 for the season, respectively, eclipsing his mark last season by one in both categories. He now has 113 long-range shots made and 277 for the season.

TURNING IT AROUND: One number sticks out in Marist's recent seven-game winning streak when you compare it to the four games that preceded it (1-3 record). The Red Foxes allowed an average of 75.0 points (300) during the four-game swoon. During the streak, Marist has yielded just 60.7 points (425) per game.

FIRST ROUNDER?: Jared Jordan NBA Draft stock has soared recently, according to George Rodecker's website (www.roadiehoops.com). Jordan is currently 28th overall on Rodecker's list of the top 200 draft-eligible players and is the highest rated point guard in the draft according to the website.

JORDAN A COUSY FINALIST: Marist senior point guard Jared Jordan (Hartford, Conn.) has been named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford, an honor presented annually to the nation's top collegiate point guard. The winner will be announced at the NCAA Men's Final Four in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday April 2.

POLLING: The Red Foxes are 18th in this week's edition of the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25.

BLOCK PARTY: Marist's James Smith recorded two blocks in the 67-60 victory at Fairfield to give him 66 all-time for 10th on the school's all-time list.

RPI: Marist is among the nation's top 115 teams according to at least four RPI sites found on the internet. The Red Foxes are ranked 108th (Sportsline.com-2/23), 113th (RealTimeRpi.com-2/23), 114th (KenPom.com-2/22) and 115th (RPIRatings.com-2/20).

JORDAN SCORING CLIP: Marist guard Jared Jordan is currently averaging 17.5 points per game this season. The last time any Marist player finished a season averaging that many points was the 1993-94 campaign when Izett Buchanan averaged a school-record 25.4 points per game.

1,000/500: Marist guard Jared Jordan snared seven rebounds in the 71-66 win over Loyola to become just the fifth player in school history to amass 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. For his career, he now was 1,462 points and 533 career rebounds. The other members of that illustrious list are: Rik Smits (1984-88, 1,945 points, 811 rebounds), Izett Buchanan (1990-94, 1,593 points, 613 rebounds), Alan Tomidy (1992-96, 1,506 points, 838 rebounds) and Miroslav Pecarski (1985-89, 1,196 points, 655 rebounds).

BALL CONTROL A MUST: The Red Foxes have made just 99 turnovers (9.9 per game) in each their last 10 games. Marist had averaged 15.4 turnovers in the 19 previous games this season.

RACE TO 35?: The 5:00 mark of the second half has been a big factor since last season. Marist is 40-2 when leading with five minutes to go in its last 58 games. The Red Foxes' 75-72 loss in the 2005-06 season opener and the 75-74 loss at Manhattan this season are the only two exceptions.

EYE ON ASSISTS: Marist is 18-0 this season when it has more assists than its opponent, but just 4-7 when it has the same amount or fewer.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Marist is prominently featured in the national rankings, which were released on Feb. 22. The Red Foxes were 20th nationally in 3-pointers per game (8.8). Individually, Jordan led the nation with 8.6 assists per game. Will Whittington also checked in at second in the country with 3.9 3-pointers per game.

CONTINUING THE CLIMB: Marist senior Jared Jordan notched 12 assists in the 67-60 victory at Fairfield to give him 769 for his career. Drafton Davis (1984-88) is the all-time leader with 804.

KEYS TO VICTORY: Marist is 17-2 when it outrebounds its opponent. The Red Foxes are also 15-1 when they make more free throws and 10-1 when they register more steals.

WHAT IT TAKES: Marist is 13-0 this season when it shoots 46.6 percent or better and 16-3 when it registers at least 71 points.

BACKCOURT CAN BE FOUND THROUGHOUT THE MARIST RECORD BOOK: Marist guards Will Whittington have begun to sneak into more of Marist's career records this season. Jordan is now second in assists (769), fourth in field goals attempted (1149), fourth in field goals made (520), fifth in steals (154), sixth in free throws attempted (398), seventh in points (1,462), seventh in 3-point attempts (439), seventh in free throws made (277), seventh in 3-pointers made (145), ninth in rebounds (533) and 10th in scoring average (13.1). Whittington is first in 3-pointers made (338), first in 3-point attempts (795), fourth in 3-point percentage (.425), fifth in field goal attempts (1,071), sixth in points (1,485), eighth in free throw percentage (.786), eighth in scoring average (13.7), ninth in field goals made (447) and 10th in free throws made (253).

TRIO HITS THE TRIFECTAS: Marist currently has three of the most prolific 3-point shooters in school history on this year's roster. Junior Will Whittington is fourth (.425, 338-795) and senior James Smith is seventh (.393, 75-191).

STILPHEN COMES THROUGH AT THE LINE: Redshirt junior forward Ryan Stilphen came into the season with a career free throw percentage of .550 (111-202). However, the Bay Village, Ohio native has improved his prowess at the stripe this season as he has connected on 60 of 91 attempts (.659). In MAAC games, Stilphen has made 40 of 58 attempts (67.0 percent).

BIG BENCH: The Red Foxes are 12-0 this season when their bench outscores or equals the opponent.

THE GOOD: Marist currently leads the league (through Feb. 23) in six categories (all games): 3-pointers made (8.83), scoring margin (+6.5), defensive rebounding (25.66), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.14), 3-point field goal percentage defense (.315) and rebound margin (+3.1). Individually, Will Whittington also leads the MAAC with 3.90 3-pointers per game. In conference games only, Marist is first in defensive rebounding (25.35), assists (15.76), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.28) and rebound margin (+3.6). Individually, Will Whittington has the lead in the 3-pointers per game category (3.82).

THE BAD: Marist is ninth in the league (all games) in steals (5.34). In conference games only, the Red Foxes are also last in steals (5.24).

LOTS OF 3'S: During the Brady era, it is no secret that the 3-pointer has become the key cog in the offense, especially with the glut of long-range shooters that the Red Foxes possess. However, the 2006-07 team is on pace to break new ground in terms of the impact the 19'9" shot has had. Marist has taken 43.5 percent (716) of its total field goal attempts (1645) from behind the arc this season. That percentage, the 23rd-highest in the nation right now according to www.kenpom.com, is also the highest for the program in at least the last six seasons. The full list is below.

3-Point Attempt Percentage:

2006-07: 716 3-point attempts, 1645 field goal attempts (43.5)

2005-06: 660 3-point attempts, 1613 field goal attempts (40.9)

2004-05: 603 3-point attempts, 1534 field goal attempts (39.3)

2003-04: 522 3-point attempts, 1625 field goal attempts (32.1)

2002-03: 610 3-point attempts, 1714 field goal attempts (35.6)

2001-02: 583 3-point attempts, 1614 field goal attempts (36.1)

A HISTORY OF NOT-SO-FREEBIES: The Red Foxes are currently seventh in the MAAC in free throw shooting at 67.2 percent (390-580). The charity stripe has not been kind to Marist over the past three seasons as the Red Foxes have finished ninth, ninth, and 10th in the league during that span. Those numbers are a steep drop for a program that led the MAAC in the category in 2001-02 (74.6 percent) and finished second (77.8 percent) in 2002-03.

DIFFERENCES IN HALVES: Marist yields 29.7 points per game in the first half, but gives up 37.1 points in the second stanza. On offense, the Red Foxes average 32.7 points in the first half and 39.9 in the second half.

RECORD-SETTER: Whittington is now the school's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 338, surpassing Danny Basile's total of 239 from 1992-96.

NO BLEACHER BUMS HERE: The Marist basketball programs have gone 34-2 (through 2/22) with the new seating additions at the McCann Center, which increased the building's capacity to 3,200. The Marist men have gone 18-2, while the women's squad boasts a perfect 16-0 mark.

JORDAN JOINS WHITTINGTON IN THE 1,000 CLUB: Senior guard Jared Jordan netted 17 points in the 78-62 victory at Delaware to become the 24th player in Marist history to surpass 1,000 career points. Whittington is sixth with 1,485 points, while Jordan is seventh with 1,462 points. Alan Tomidy is fifth all-time with 1,508 points from 1992-96.

Marist All-Time Scoring List

1. Steve Smith 2,077 (1979-83)

20. Fred Weiss 1,059 (1962-65)

21. Bill Gowen 1,046 (1968-71)

22. Bill Spenla 1,008 (1968-71)

23. Sean Kennedy 1,007 (1998-2002)

24. John Kijonek 1,001 (1985-86, 1988-89)

GOOD STARTS, GOOD SCORES: In its last 58 games, Marist is 29-9 when it has scored first and 32-5 when it leads at the half. The Red Foxes are also 17-7 when the game has been decided by 5-9 points, 19-2 when they score at least 80 points and 24-1 when their opponents tally 68 points or less.

STILPHEN SIXTH IN SCHOOL FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGE: Redshirt junior Ryan Stilphen has dented the school record book in field goal percentage. The Bay Village, Ohio native is sixth all-time (min. 100 field goals made), connecting on 324 of 574 shots for 56.4 percent. Rik Smits is the all-time leader with a 60.9 clip (756-for-1,241).

STREAK STILL ALIVE: Marist has connected on a 3-point field goal attempt in 222 straight games. The Red Foxes were 0-7 against American on December 7, 1999. That is the only game that the Red Foxes have not hit a 3-pointer since the inception of the 3-point line for the 1986-87 season, snapping the previous streak of 374 games. Overall, the Red Foxes have nailed a 3-pointer in 597 of 598 games played (99.8 percent) in their history. Marist's streak looked in jeopardy against Delaware on Nov. 26 of last season, when the Red Foxes were 0-8 in the first half from behind the arc. Marist finished with a trio of three-point baskets to preserve the streak.

STILPHEN, SMITH CRASH THE GLASS: Redshirt junior James Smith are two of the Red Foxes' most tenacious rebounders in history. The 6'8 Stilphen stands eighth on Marist's career rebounds per game list with 6.1 boards (471) per contest in 77 career games, while the 7'0 Smith is ninth in rebounding average with 6.0 rebounds (348) in 58 career games. Stilphen is also 10th all-time in school history with those 471 total boards.

45: Dating back to 2004-05, a magic number has appeared on the stat sheet. The Red Foxes are 11-26 in the Matt Brady era (86 games) when they shoot the ball less than 45 percent from the field and 40-8 when they better that number.

THE HALF IS THE KEY: Over the course of Brady's tenure (86 games), whether or not Marist has the lead at the break has dictated the contest's end result more often than not. Marist is 40-10 when it leads at halftime and just 11-25 when it is tied or trailing to the opponent.

DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE: Limiting its opponent's output has proved to be a struggle at times for Marist during the Brady era. The Red Foxes are just 3-12 over that span when their opponent shoots better than 50 percent and just 14-23 when their opponent makes more free throws.

CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR: The Red Foxes' 75-74 loss at Manhattan represented another in a line of frustrating losses for Marist over the past three seasons. In the Brady era, the team is just 8-12 in games decided by four points or less.

TOUGH D: The 47 points allowed by Marist in the win over Colgate is the fewest for the program since yielding 47 to Delaware State on Nov. 19, 1999 in a 72-47 victory by the Red Foxes in the Pepsi Marist Classic.

ONE-POINTERS: After the 79-78 win at Rider and the 65-64 victory over Fairfield, it marked the first time that the program had captured back-to-back one-point wins in its 26 years in Division I. The only other time Marist has even played back-to-back one-point games was in the 1996-97 season when it defeated Rider 58-57 on Feb. 17, 1997 and lost at St. Francis, N.Y. 70-69 on Feb. 20, 1997.

SCHOOL RECORD: Marist's 16 3-pointers in the 79-78 win at Rider topped the previous school mark of 15 set twice last season against Siena. Whittington also nailed eight himself for the fourth time in his career, yet again tying the school record which is also held by Joey O'Connor (vs. Loyola, 1987-88) and Many Otero (vs. Monmouth, 1996-97).

REJECTION CITY: Manhattan registered seven blocked shots in the 75-74 win over Marist. That total was the most Marist has allowed in a game since Dec. 22, 2004 when Notre Dame also knocked away that many in an 88-73 win in the Joyce Center. Loyola forward Omari Isreal was a member of that squad and played five minutes against Marist that day, missing his only field goal attempt in addition to a foul.

FAST HOME START: Marist had won each of its first eight home contests before Niagara defeated the Red Foxes 83-75 to snap the streak. The last time the Red Foxes had a longer unbeaten home start was the 1995-96 campaign when it won its first nine games.

DOWN TO THE WIRE: 17 of the last 23 meetings between Canisius and Marist have been decided by seven points or less. Marist is 8-9 in those contests.

LOTS OF OVERTIMES: Marist's 91-86 overtime win at Niagara was the Red Foxes' third overtime game of the season (all wins). The last time Marist had this many overtime games in a season was the 1994-95 season when the Red Foxes went 1-3 in four overtime contests (W-Monmouth, L-Fairleigh Dickinson, at Rider and Mount St. Mary's).

PEPSI MARIST CLASSIC: Saturday's 71-56 win over Central Arkansas gave Marist its first Pepsi Marist Classic title since the 2001-02 season when it defeated Drexel (75-67) and Columbia (69-59). In all, the Red Foxes have won 10 Pepsi Marist Classic tournament crowns. Marist is 26-14 all-time in the Pepsi Marist Classic and 3-1 under head coach Matt Brady.

"80 STREAK" COMES TO AN END: Marist had scored at least 80 points in its last five games, the longest streak of its kind in school history, before falling 63-53 at Wright State on Dec. 19.

HONORS CONTINUE TO POUR IN FOR JORDAN: Marist guard Jared Jordan not only claimed MAAC Co-Player of the Week honors for a second consecutive week, but also got some national acclaim as well. On ESPN.com, Dick Vitale named Jordan his Player of the Week after pouring in 26 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in the 84-71 win over Old Dominion, coupled with the 30 point, eight assist, seven board game in the 80-73 overtime win at Richmond.

JORDAN RAKES IN THE HONORS: Marist guard Jared Jordan not only captured the Old Spice Most Valuable Player honors, but claimed MAAC Co-Player of the Week honors as well. Jordan averaged 20.7 points, 9.0 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game in leading the Red Foxes to wins over Minnesota and Western Michigan on ESPN2.

RED FOXES INK THREE EARLY SIGNEES: Marist men's basketball coach Matt Brady announced three early signees for the program Wednesday afternoon. The Red Foxes will welcome 6'1 guard Jeremiah Bowman (Washington, D.C.), 6'1 guard Jayde Gavin (Seat Pleasant, Md.) and 6'9 forward Korey Bauer (Whitehall, Pa.) to Poughkeepsie next season. "This class certainly fills immediate need," said Marist head coach Matt Brady. "We are bringing in not only two guards that can handle, score and defend the basketball, but a big man who will have a tremendous impact on the program. These young men possess, not only the ability to become All-MAAC performers during their career, but are wonderful people as well." Bowman averaged 20 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals as the point guard for Southern Maryland Christian Academy last season. "Jeremiah is a uniquely talented player," said Brady. "He is a high-level athlete that can get to the basket effectively. He certainly has the potential to be a star at this level." Gavin averaged 11 points, four rebounds and three assists for Coach Marty Keithline at Bishop McNamara last season, breaking into the starting lineup as a sophomore and junior. Gavin was named one of the Top 40 All Stars at the Eastern Invitational. "Jay is a highly-skilled combo guard," Brady said. "He really has a lot of toughness, work ethic and brings tremendous amount of skill to the program with his ability to score." Bauer averaged 15 points and five rebounds last season for Whitehall, starting every game last season on his way to all-conference honors. "Korey is a long, athletic forward who has really just scratched the surface of how good he can become in this program," said Brady. "He runs the floor well for a young man of his size and is an improving scorer."
