MIAMI, FLA. - The Marist Softball squad fell to 1-9 on the season Sunday afternoon with an 8-0 loss at the hands of the #8/11 Stanford Cardinal. Sophomore Jessica Green (Manassas, Va.) collected Marist's only hit of the afternoon and was named to the Adidas-Golden Panther All-Tournament Team.
Stanford got on the board early on Sunday, as the Cardinal plated a single run in the first and two more in the second inning. Stanford scored in the first when Jackie Rinehart singled up the middle and was driven in on a triple by Maddy Coon.
After getting two quick outs in the second inning, Marist starter Megan Rigos (Pittsburgh, Pa.) gave up three straight singles, resulting in two runs, giving Stanford a 3-0 advantage through two innings of play.
Stanford would tack two more runs in the fifth and then three runs in the sixth to win the game 8-0 in a shortened game. The Cardinal scored two runs on four hits in the fifth inning, before collecting four hits resulting in three more runs in the sixth.
Stanford had three players record three hits in the game with Alissa Haber, Rinehart and Rosey Neill all going 3-4. Haber scored twice for the Cardinal, while Rinehart crossed the plate three times in the victory. Neill drove in three runs on the afternoon, as Stanford improved to 14-2 on the season.
Missy Penna pitched the complete game for Stanford giving up just the one hit and striking out 10. She improved to 9-1 on the season.
Rigos went 5.2 innings and allowed 15 hits in the contest. She surrendered eight earned runs and struck out four for the Foxes.
At 1-9, Marist will take the field again on March 7, when it clashes with Hudson Valley rival Army. The doubleheader at West Point is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
