SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. - Head Coach Andrew Silva's women's water polo team fell to Redlands 5-4 and #8 San Diego State 8-3 on Saturday as part of the UC-Santa Barbara mini-tournament. Freshman Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) scored twice against Redlands and once against San Diego State.
Marist had a tough shooting day against Redlands, converting just four of the 28 shots it took in the contest. Joining Rampton in the scoring column were Kari Weston (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.). Weston and Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) posted assists in the game, while Schroeder drew two ejections.
Swartz collected two steals in the game and Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) got the start in net and made six saves. Katy Zweifel (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) came on the in the second half and made seven stops in addition to recording a pair of steal.
Against the Aztecs, Rampton, Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Swartz were the goal scorers in the loss. Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) also drew a pair of ejections in the contest for the Foxes.
On defense, Marist had three players record a steal in Caitlin Hopkins (Beaverton, Ore.), Emily St. Omer Roy (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Swartz.
In goal, Davis recorded seven saves against San Diego State and collected two steals, with Zweifel saving six shots and posting a steal.
Marist falls to 9-10 overall on the season following Saturday's games in Santa Barbara. The Red Foxes will be back in action tomorrow in Thousand Oaks against Cal State Monterey Bay at 4 p.m. eastern and Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m. eastern.
