VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. - The Marist Softball squad dropped a double header to Cornell on Sunday to close out the Spartan Softball Mason Dixon Classic hosted by Norfolk State. Cornell won the first game 8-0, before topping the Foxes 7-1 in game two. Sophomore Jessica Green (Manassas, Va.) hit a home run in game two accounting for Marist's only run.
The Red Foxes could only muster three base hits in the first game, as they were shutout for the fifth time this season. Green, Annie Castellano (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Samantha Schubert (Maybrook, N.Y.) collected hits in the game, all singles.
In game two, Marist out hit Cornell 7-4 in the game. Green went deep to right center with two outs in the third for the Foxes' lone run. The drive marked Green's second of the year and the 11th of her career.
Caitlin Carpentier (Andove, Mass.) took the loss in game one and fell to 2-4 on the season, while Kristen Merlino (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) dropped to 0-4 on the year with the loss in the second game.
Following Sunday's games Marist stands at 2-14 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday, March 13 in Philadelphia for a doubleheader at La Salle. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
