POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis team swept all six of the singles matches and also earned the doubles point in its match against Manhattan on Wednesday, posting a 7-0 triumph. The Red Foxes won their fourth consecutive match, improving to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
At first singles, Christine Ong (Tarzana, Calif.) earned a 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory over Jennifer Fowler. Erin Godly (Little Silver, N.J.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Lindsey Keeler at the number two spot. At third singles, Megan Gureck (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over Casey Conklin. At the number four spot, Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) earned a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Morgan MacTaggart. Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Men Nguyen at sixth singles.
The Red Foxes won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Godly and Strange tipped Fowler and MacTaggart, 8-6, at first doubles. At third doubles, Colon and Zampello defeated Nguyen and Lindsay Spagnola, 8-2. Gureck and Ong suffered an 8-6 loss to Fowler and MacTaggart at second doubles.
Marist will return to action on Friday with a contest against Rider at 2 p.m. at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. The Marist men's tennis team will also be hosting the Broncs at the same time and site. Both the men and women will also take on Loyola at 10 a.m. on Sunday at the Marist Tennis Pavilion.
