CAMBREIDGE, MASS. - The Marist Women's Water Polo team earned a 9-5 victory over MAAC Water Polo League foe Wagner on Sunday morning to finish fifth at the ECAC Water Polo Tournament. Freshman Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) scored five goals in the win, while Kari Weston (Chino Hills, Calif.) tallied two goals and added three assists.
Barnett was one of four goal scorers in the game for Marist, setting a career high with her five tallies. Aside from Weston's two goals, Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) also found the back of the net for the Foxes. Weston's three assists led the team, while Swartz helped on two goals and Maggie Hatcher (Evanston, Ill.) added one assist.
Weston and Schroeder also had strong games on defense in the win. Weston recorded our steals in the game and one field block and Schroeder drew four ejections for the Foxes.
In goal, Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) made 12 saves in the win, including the block of a penalty shot. The junior captain also posted two steals in the contest.
At 9-6 Marist will be back in action on March 9 when it takes on UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego in Santa Barbara, Calif. Game times are 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
