Fitz Earns Third-Straight MAAC Player Of The Week Award

Feb. 11, 2008

EDISON, N.J. - Marist sophomore forward Rachele Fitz (Seven Hills, Ohio) was honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Monday as its women's basketball player of the week. This is the third consecutive week Fitz has won the award and the fifth time this season.

Fitz averaged 21 points per game this week in games at Niagara and Canisius. The sophomore started the week with her 13th 20-plus point effort of the season, scoring 23 points against the Purple Eagles on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. She also pulled down nine rebounds in the game. Fitz followed up that game with a 19 point, eight rebound performance in Marist's 91-46 win over Canisius on Sunday. For the week, Fitz shot 63.6% from the field and 87.5% from the free throw line and averaged eight rebounds a game.

The sophomore is currently the leading scorer in the MAAC, averaging 19 points per game. That average places Fitz 18th in the country. She is also five points away from 1,000 for her career.

Marist hosts Niagara on Friday night at the McCann Center for the "Think Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness Game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. All proceeds from raffles and auctions throughout the night will benefit the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation. Single-game and group tickets are available online at GoRedFoxes.com and at the Marist Ticket Office. For ticket information, call the Marist Ticket Office at (845) 575-3553.
