BEAUMONT, Texas.- The Marist women's tennis team was blanked 7-0 by Lamar on Monday afternoon. The win drops Marist to 1-7 on the year. Tomorrow's match with Mcneese State has been cancelled due to bad weather.
Lamar took all three doubles matches along with sweeping all six singles matches.
"It was an extremely windy day," Marist head coach Roge Nesbitt said. "We did a good job fighting and lengthening each game, but we had trouble closing out games, and sets."
In first doubles, Christine Ong (Tarzana, Calif.) and Cassie Strange (Valencia, Calif.) were shut down 8-0 by Andrea Martinez and Mariaryeni Gutierrez. Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) and Emily Zampello and Natalie Fouche (Queens, N.Y.) fell to Anahtia Jagtiani and Manami Kuroda 8-1.
The Red Foxes did not win a set in singles action all afternoon.
Marist will continue training in Texas through the week. They will return to action March 25 when they travel to Manhattan to start the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference portion of their schedule.
